Cooper ConstructionOur strategies for Green Construction involve design and construction considerations of long term maintenance cost; use of natural light; heat gain/loss; architectural structures that utilize space more efficiently; minimal landscaping maintenance; and site management that allows for recycling and salvaging of on-site materials.

Cooper evaluates and prioritizes environmental considerations during the design phase, extending them to construction and facility operation.

The building owner and users benefit from Cooper’s proven approach:

  • Reduced maintenance and/or replacement costs over building’s life
  • Improved efficiency in energy and water consumption, air circulation, lighting, and indoor air quality
  • Minimal environmental impact associated with the extraction, transportation and disposal of construction materials

Cooper evaluates each project carefully to ensure our Green Construction considerations address the building’s life-cycle costs, and that options evaluated are within the defined overall budget. Depending upon project specifics, an evaluation may involve any or all of the following criteria:

Recycled content Products with identifiable recycled content, including post-industrial content with a preference for post-consumer content.

Natural, plentiful or renewable Materials harvested from sustainably-managed resources (e.g. wood), certified by an independent third party.

Resource-efficient manufacturing process Products manufactured with resource-efficient processes, including reduced energy consumption, minimal waste (recycled, recyclable and or source-reduced product packaging), and reduced greenhouse gases.

Locally available Building materials, components & systems found locally or regionally, saving energy/resources in transportation to site.

Salvaged, refurbished or remanufactured Includes saving material from disposal, and renovating/repairing/restoring/or generally improving the appearance, performance, quality, functionality or value of a product.

Reusable or recyclable Materials that can be dismantled easily and reused or recycled at the end of their useful life.

Recycled or recyclable product packaging Products enclosed with recycled content or recyclable packaging.

Durable Materials that are longer lasting or are comparable to conventional products with long life expectancies.

Indoor materials Low/non-toxic materials that emit minimal carcinogens, reproductive toxicants or irritants, as demonstrated by the manufacturer through appropriate testing.

Minimal chemical emissions Products that have minimal emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and maximize resource and energy efficiency while reducing chemical emissions.

Low-VOC assembly Materials installed with minimal VOC-producing compounds, or no-VOC mechanical attachment methods and minimal hazards.

Moisture and mould resistance Products and systems that resist moisture or inhibit growth of biological contaminants in buildings.

Healthfully maintained Materials, components, and systems that require only simple, non-toxic or low-VOC cleaning methods.

Systems or equipment Products that promote healthy Interior Air Quality (IAQ) — extracting indoor air pollutants & improving air quality.

Energy efficiency Materials/components/systems that help reduce energy consumption.

Water Conservation Products and systems that help reduce water consumption in buildings and conserve water in landscaped areas.
